The Constant loads for the shop comes to about 30 watts for the internet and the CCTV system.
We also have some other predictable loads such as lights and fans.
These predictable loads are crucial for sizing your solar system correctly for your needs. The total Energy used on average for the shop comes out to 1.3 units per day, I rounded this to 1.5 to give a bit of margin for any losses.
Another big factor is that the inverter only powers equipment that actually needs AC power, all the cameras, router, modem, DVR all run off a DC to DC buck-boost converter that supplies a stable voltage for all of them which saves on the losses from a DC to AC and then a AC to DC conversion. Most of the lights in the shop also run off 12V power directly from the batteries in a similar manner to minimize the losses, these smart choices for electronics to run on lower voltages allows us to save as much power as possible which is crucial in maintaining a quality of life while using a smaller and more efficient setup.
Such a system is ideal for people on the move where the complexities of setting up such systems are far outweighed by the saved power.
